Bridges Between Two Worlds – Medicine Connects · Senior physician at the Baden Cantonal Hospital in Switzerland

My name is Amr Sherif Hamza, and I am a senior physician at the Baden Cantonal Hospital in Switzerland. My life is shaped by two cultures – Germany and Egypt – and by the conviction that medical progress arises from exchange and collaboration. Born in Bremen, I grew up between Europe and North Africa. I completed my medical studies in Egypt and took the first steps of my clinical career there. Later, my path led me back to Germany, where I was able to continue my professional development at the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic and Saarland University. Today, I serve as a senior physician at the Baden Cantonal Hospital – with an international perspective and a heart that is at home in both countries. Since 2013, I have been a member of the German-Egyptian Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DÄGGG), and since 2022, I have served on its board as Vice President. Together with colleagues from the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG), Cairo University, Alexandria University, and the Egyptian Fetal Medicine Foundation (EFMF), we organize annual scientific congresses that foster a vibrant dialogue between our two countries. Over the years, this ongoing collaboration has developed into a sustainable and productive scientific partnership. My goal is to further strengthen the medical and scientific ties between Germany and Egypt—two countries that can inspire and enrich one another and learn from each other. Because only through exchange and mutual understanding can we achieve what unites us all: the best possible care for our patients. The German Medical Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DÄGGG) is at the heart of this exchange—as a platform for knowledge, dialogue, and partnership. It facilitates encounters, inspires collaboration, and lays the foundation for medicine that thinks beyond borders.
